DB Cargo Pulp Paper Summit 2018

Embracing future trends together

The 4th DB Cargo Pulp & Paper Summit in Potsdam.

Some 70 customers in the pulp, paper and packaging industry accepted an invitation from DB Cargo to the Kaiserbahnhof station in Potsdam for the 4th Pulp & Paper Summit. The event held on 15 May was a chance for customers and partners to get together with DB Cargo and discuss the latest industry trends and their impact on logistics.

Key topics were the influence of digitalisation and demographic change on logistics processes as well as the increasing demand for cross-carrier approaches to transport and logistics. A varied programme consisting of lectures, panel discussions and exciting workshops stimulated debate and encouraged attendees to share their ideas and experiences. The participants focused on how rail freight transport needs to orient itself in future and on the importance of transparency along the entire logistics chain. "Intelligent multimodal transport solutions are becoming even more important in maintaining a competitive edge," said Raimund Stüer, DB Cargo Board Member for Sales and Marketing. "We will transform ourselves from a transport operator to a European logistics provider and put even more focus on the individual logistics requirements of our customers."

Discussions with customers once again revealed their need for information and transparency at multiple levels. One trend, for example, is towards multifunctional intelligent freight wagons equipped with GPS and sensors, along with better ETA forecasting. DB Cargo will continue to consult closely with customers, developing these improvements in partnership with them, said Jürgen Röher, Head of the Pulp & Paper Sales and Operations Center at DB Cargo.

"The intensive discussions have shown us what we need to focus on to achieve practical logistics solutions that work. Transparent processes and door-to-door solutions are our common goal," said Jürgen Röher.

Guests and hosts rounded off the stimulating day in a relaxed atmosphere in the historical ambience of the Kaiserbahnhof station.

A detailed report on the event is included in railways issue no. 03/2018.
