International traffic – By rail to Asia
Overland transport through Europe to Asia is increasingly gaining in significance. DB Cargo is your experienced partner for European rail transport.
Due to our longstanding experience in European rail transport and numerous co-operation agreements with international partners, we will also be pleased to take care of the design and organisation of traffic outside Germany for you. DB Cargo has several rail transport solutions available to Turkey and beyond to Asia via different corridors.
In intermodal traffic, we offer you non-stop train connections overland between Germany and Turkey, for example. Trains can be equipped with double pocket wagons for semi-trailers or container wagons for standard containers and take five days for their trip between Germany and the greater Istanbul area. They pass through the countries of Austria, Hungary and Romania en route. Goods can be loaded and unloaded here. Other routes also pass through Serbia.
A further option is the indirect overland route via the port of Trieste. The train takes cargo from Germany to Trieste in Italy. From Trieste, ferry connections to Turkey run to the ports of Izmir, Ambarli, Pendik and Mersin. From here, the cargo travels by road or rail to its final destination in inland Turkey.
We also offer national transport concepts within Turkey, e.g. from Istanbul heading east to Kayseri or Mersin.
A new intermodal project even goes to Iran. Your cargo is taken to Romania by rail in the first instance. From there, it takes the ferry between the Romanian port of Constanta and Poti in Georgia. From Georgia, a new intermodal train travels via Armenia/ Azerbaijan to the destination station of Tehran in Iran. In the opposite direction, the connection then operates via Turkey and collects the return cargo there.
The good economic prospects in Turkey make transportation into the country attractive. Thus, industrial goods first and foremost are exported to Turkey. Textile products from Turkey reach the European market.
DB Cargo provides assistance both in Turkey and in Germany, with propositions of terminal and agency services, for example. Long waiting times at the Turkish border are prevented by using the simplified customs clearance procedure.
We are developing individual transport concepts into Turkey and to Asia together with our customers. Further information can be provided on request.
