DB Intermodal Services GmbH (DB IS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn. It began container sales from a single location in Ulm, Baden-Württemberg in 2008. We now offer ocean containers for sale and rent at eight further locations (Kornwestheim, Mannheim, Frankfurt am Main, Grossbeeren, Leipzig, Nuremberg, Regensburg and Augsburg) in the standard sizes 20ft, 40ft and 40ft HC (High Cube) as well as special equipment (on request). We are also happy to put together a suitable transport package for you.

The DB IS ocean containers by quality level

Quality level 1: As good as new

The ocean containers are in mint condition. They can be used for sea voyages and cargo from the Far East and have a CSC (International Convention for Safe Containers) plate valid for five years – they can be used in shipping and rail transport from the time of manufacture and without restriction. We usually offer these containers in the following RAL colours: RAL 5010, RAL 7016, RAL 7035, RAL 9010. Other colours available on request.

Quality level 2: A-quality

The containers are approximately 15 years old and in good visual condition. Furthermore, we offer a CSC validity of 12 to 18 months – which is the safety standard of the International Maritime Organization. Our A-quality containers are suitable for removal goods or, in some cases, for textile transports.

Quality level 3: B-Quality

The containers are approximately 20-25 years old and in moderate visual condition. There may be dents and rust spots. In addition, quality level 3 containers come with a 12-month CSC validity. They are particularly popular for export business.

Quality level 4: Container without CSC

These can be used as storage containers and have been repaired to make them wind- and waterproof. Please note: They do not have a CSC plate and may no longer be transported by ship or to other countries. Quality level 4 containers are often used as garden sheds or to store tyres, for example.

Quality 5 level: "as is"

Unrepaired, "as is" containers are offered by DB IS in the condition in which they were handed over by the shipping companies (without CSC), i.e. no repairs have been made by us . The containers can be inspected at any of our depots before purchase.
