Certified in IT security
DB Cargo is the first freight operating company to receive ISO certification for baseline IT security.
The company completed the ISO 27001 certification process at the end of October. Germany's Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) issued the certificate and announced the audit's successful outcome on its website.
This certification will benefit all of DB Cargo's customers which transport sensitive items. Particularly those companies working with dangerous goods have requested certification in tenders and as part of contract negotiations.
Gerd Brosius, Chief Information Officer (CIO) at DB Cargo in Frankfurt, says, "Information security is very important to us at DB Cargo. We set standards for the secure handling of all data, which means that our customers can rely on us for transport services, but they can count on us to handle required data processing as well."
The baseline IT security certification serves as verification that the rail freight company has implemented the necessary security measures and established an information security management system (ISMS). This declaration is valid for three years, and monitoring audits will be conducted on an annual basis. Together, these components form an ongoing process that will result in continuous improvements to IT security to meet the ever-increasing number of threats.
