Thanks to a 30% reduction in delivery times, spare parts for locomotives of the BR 247 series can now be provided much faster.
The availability of locomotives is a decisive factor for smooth operations in rail freight transport. DB Cargo has made significant progress in this area: Delivery times for spare parts for the BR 247 series can be reduced by 30% in future.To achieve this, thousands of consumption data have been analysed since 2015 as part of a cross-divisional project - from washers to bogies. Various AI models were tested in order to create the most accurate demand forecasts possible.The goal was clear: an AI-supported material procurement forecast (MBP) that not only optimises future spare parts stocks, but also evaluates delivery reliability.The result:
- Spare parts are now available up to 30% faster in DB Cargo's workshops.
- The material requirements forecast for the entire BR 247 fleet has been significantly improved.
The project was successfully implemented in just three months. The close cooperation between all those involved was crucial to this success. The solutions developed can now be easily transferred to other locomotive series.With AI-supported demand forecasting and structured data management, DB Cargo is optimising material planning in the long term. This increases efficiency and ensures better planning and operational reliability in rail freight transport.
