Article: Bernhard Osburg takes over leadership at DB Cargo
Former thyssenkrupp CEO brings industrial experience and transformational strength to Deutsche Bahn's freight transport division
On 15 November 2025, Bernhard Osburg took over as head of Deutsche Bahn AG's freight transport division and was simultaneously appointed Chair of the Management Board and CEO of DB Cargo AG in Mainz.
Osburg, born in 1968, previously held various executive and management positions at thyssenkrupp AG. Most recently, as CEO, he was responsible for the global steel product portfolio with over 30 automotive manufacturers and around 100 industrial customers. During his time at thyssenkrupp, he led the transformation to green steel and various restructuring measures, among other things.
He lives with his family in Duisburg.
His appointment marks the end of Dr Sigrid Evelyn Nikutta's term of office, who is leaving Deutsche Bahn at the end of the year by mutual agreement. She has led DB Cargo through challenging times since 2020, steering the company safely through the coronavirus pandemic and strengthening its role in ensuring security of supply. She also oversaw the ongoing restructuring and established clear accountability for results in all business areas.
