    The freight wagon system is a major innovation.

    Our concept separates the freight loading unit from the carrier wagon. The carrier wagon's main properties, such as its length, can be configured in many different ways over its life cycle, creating new possibilities for vehicle design. Carrier wagons can be equipped with different freight loading units, which can be removed and swapped. This will enable us at DB Cargo to adapt our equipment even more quickly and individually to your needs as a customer.

    A tangible and practical customer solution.

    In addition to the small pre-production series of vehicles with carrier wagons and superstructures we are currently introducing to the market, in the coming months, we will develop and test various new superstructures and freight loading units and then begin series production. And we'll do it together with you, our customers. We look forward to working with you.

    We're revolutionizing freight wagons.

    The freight wagon system has been fully approved since June 2021. This means the wagons can be used for cross-border service in our European network and for single wagonload transport – the only wagons in Europe able to do so. With the new wagons, we are creating innovation in the rail system and making rail freight transport even more attractive.

    Market launch with first pre-production series

    The project to launch an initial small pre-production series of vehicles with carrier wagons and superstructures on the rail freight market is being funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure through a federal program to promote pioneering rail freight technology. The intention is to integrate the new freight wagon system into DB Cargo's long-term fleet strategy and for starting the further roll-out.
