Article: Innovative test box ensures greater efficiency in the workshop
At the DB Cargo workshop in Fredericia, Denmark, employees are relying on creative solutions to increase efficiency in the workshop. Electricians Benjamin Gøtke and Jan Mølsted have developed a test box that can be used to quickly and easily diagnose faults in the multiple traction operation of MK locomotives.
Multiple traction means that two locomotives must drive together and communicate with each other. Until now, troubleshooting often required coupling two locomotives to check the signals between them. The new test box can simulate a locomotive so that faults can be detected without taking another locomotive out of service.
The advantages are clear:
- More efficient troubleshooting: problems can be identified and resolved more quickly.
- Early problem identification: All MK locomotives can be routinely checked for multiple traction in future.
- More operating time: Fewer visits to the workshop mean greater availability for transport.
Birgit Wirth, CEO of DB Cargo Scandinavia, praises the development: ‘It is impressive to see how skill and ingenuity in the workshop are translated into concrete solutions that make our work easier and at the same time create more time for production. The test box is a great example of how small, clever solutions can create significant added value for the entire company.’
Benjamin and Jan demonstrate how innovative ideas in everyday workshop life create real added value for DB Cargo and its customers.
