Article: European Railway Checkpoints: AI-supported condition monitoring for European rail freight transport

The webinar for the sector will present various practical examples of intelligent checkpoint solutions in rail freight transport. DB Cargo presents one of them.

Innovations are a key lever for efficient European rail freight transport. As part of the TRANS4M-R project within Europe's Rail - Flagship Area 5, the international webinar "European Railway Checkpoints - Intelligent Monitoring of Seamless Rail Freight Transports" will take place on 27 January:

The focus will be on the exemplary demonstration of European Railway Checkpoints - intelligent, standardised detection points along the rail infrastructure. With the help of AI-based analysis processes, automated data collection and harmonised interfaces across Europe, these enable seamless monitoring of freight trains across national borders.

The following solutions will be presented based on real-life use cases from Germany, Sweden, Spain and the Netherlands:

    • AI-supported maintenance and condition monitoring (e.g. Bogie Analyser)
    • Digital identification of freight wagons and intermodal loading units (ILU)
    • System integration: direct connection of trackside checkpoints to on-board systems
    • Safety and compliance through automated recognition of dangerous goods labelling, placards and UIC codes

As the European market leader in rail freight transport, DB Cargo contributes its operational expertise and uses a practical example to show how AI and camera bridges can make a decisive contribution to greater efficiency and transparency in freight transport in Europe.

The English-language webinar is aimed at interested parties and experts from logistics, the rail industry, infrastructure management and research.
