DB Cargo's extensive network covers the whole of Europe and parts of Asia. Our updated network map provides a detailed insight into the advantages and special features of the various freight train connections. In this series, we introduce you to the different routes. Today we are looking at the special advantages of the northwest route.

High frequency in a tight network

The major western ports on one side, European economic centers on the other and a high-frequency rail network in between: this is the Northwest route. It is the fast connection to and from the major seaports of Rotterdam (Netherlands) and Antwerp (Belgium) - and there is also a connection to Great Britain via the Calais link. The route offers optimal conditions for both block train and single freight car transport: The Kijfhoek classification yard is the most efficient hub in the Netherlands and ideally suited for all transports.

The Zeebrugge and Antwerp shuttles contribute significantly to the dynamics within the North-West network thanks to their high frequency. They also provide connections to Cologne-Gremberg and the Ruhr area, important destinations and classification yards for onward transport, for example to Italy.

    Regional expertise and large portfolio

Thanks to its local expertise, DB Cargo's international team leaves nothing to be desired: Our customer advisors in Service find individual solutions that can be tailored specifically to each customer thanks to our broad product portfolio. Additional services such as loading advisors or support with customs matters are also available.

The efficient hub solution of the AlbatrossExpress West from TFG Transfracht, a subsidiary of DB Cargo, also simplifies processes in the ports. Thanks to the short distances to the economic centers and the hub concept, the AlbatrossExpress West enables short response times, flexible volume increases and a high level of reliability.
