Article: Low water levels: DB Cargo offers additional rail transport options
Low water levels on several waterways are currently hampering freight transport across various industries. Many companies are therefore considering how to safeguard their shipments or reorganise them at short notice.
DB Cargo is in close contact with affected customers and is working on additional rail transport options. The focus is on determining which shipments can be taken on at short notice and what capacity is available for this.
“The current situation requires close coordination between all parties involved in the transport chain. We are in direct contact with our customers and are seeking solutions that can be implemented at short notice under the respective conditions. To this end, we can mobilise around 400 additional freight wagons on an ad hoc basis. We are working with the affected companies to determine where this can result in specific transport operations,” says Bernhard Osburg, CEO of DB Cargo AG.
Which transport solutions are suitable must be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Key factors include the goods being transported, the route, the infrastructure and the available resources.
