Article: New vehicles for greater sustainability: Transfesa Logistics expands its car transport fleet
More capacity, fewer emissions: Transfesa Logistics, the Spanish subsidiary of DB Cargo, is modernising its car transport fleet with 200 new wagons. The company is thus strengthening rail transport in the European Mediterranean corridor and making vehicle transport more efficient and climate-friendly.
The new double-deck wagons are designed for standard gauge and have an adjustable upper deck. This allows different types of vehicles – from electric cars to small vans – to be transported flexibly. This increases capacity utilisation and offers greater operational flexibility in cross-border transport.
"The new wagons are an important step towards modern, efficient and climate-friendly rail freight transport. This also strengthens our position in the international network of DB Cargo," says Samuel Nevado, Transport Director of the Transfesa Group.
The expansion of the fleet supports the European core network corridor Mediterranean, a central link between Spain and Central Europe. Improved interoperability on standard gauge tracks simplifies cross-border transport – a decisive contribution to increasing rail traffic. The project was financed with funds from the EU's NextGenerationEU programme as part of Spain's sustainable and digital transport support plan. This not only drives forward technical modernisation, but also promotes integration into a climate-friendly, digitally networked logistics system.
With this fleet expansion, Transfesa Logistics is sending a clear signal for sustainable growth, efficiency and innovation in European rail freight transport.
