Article: 25 years of LogServ: A partnership for reliable transport services
From raw material trains from seaports to award-winning shuttle concepts: the collaboration between DB Cargo and LogServ is shaping industrial supply chains by rail.
25 years of LogServ represent a quarter of a century of industrial logistics, steel transport and close partnerships along the supply chain. A key part of this development is the collaboration with DB Cargo. Together, the partners have established transport concepts that today reliably move large quantities of steel, scrap, coal and ore by rail.
DB Cargo regularly transports steel products for LogServ. Through the collaboration with CargoServ, extensive transport operations for coal and ore are also carried out. Over the years, these transport flows have given rise to established logistics concepts that go far beyond traditional individual shipments.
From individual shipments to the shuttle concept
One example is the jointly established shuttle services to Bavaria and south-west Germany. These ensure predictable processes along the supply chains and consolidate large volumes by rail. In 2021, the partners received the German Logistics Award for the jointly developed Bavaria Shuttle.
The collaboration is not limited to transport. Over the years, joint innovations in freight wagons have emerged and operational processes have been further developed. This includes the introduction of the Distributed Power System (DPS) in cross-border traffic between Austria and Germany. By using DPS, heavier trains can be operated whilst utilising the same resources.
Practical solutions also play an important role in day-to-day operations. During construction phases, the partners support one another through a shared pool of train drivers. This makes it easier to compensate for staff shortages and ensure transport services are maintained.
For 25 years, LogServ, CargoServ and DB Cargo have been working together to develop transport solutions for the steel and raw materials sectors and to ensure reliable rail supply chains.

Over the years, this collaboration has given rise to efficient transport and shuttle concepts. These connect seaports with industrial and production sites, ensuring that raw materials and intermediate products arrive reliably where they are needed.

Joint shuttle concepts, new operational approaches and close cooperation in day-to-day business help to ensure that steel and raw material shipments are reliably transported by rail.
