Article: Digital standards as the basis for sustainable processes in combined transport
Paperless processes have been established in logistics for many years. The real challenge today lies in reliable, end-to-end implementation along complex transport chains. Stable digital standards that work in everyday operations are particularly important in combined transport with many interfaces and participants.
For TFG Transfracht as part of DB Cargo, paperless transport is therefore not an end in itself, but a logical step towards standardizing and securing operational processes. The aim is to create structured and transparent information flows between driver, customer, loading point and scheduling.
The digital provision of transport information in real time, made possible by the driver app that has been introduced across the board, directly supports operational control. Notifications are issued at an early stage, status messages are available to all parties involved synchronously and adjustments to the process can be taken into account promptly. This reduces waiting times at the loading points and significantly improves pre- and post-carriage planning.
In day-to-day operations, this form of digitalization has a direct impact on efficiency and sustainability. Fewer manual work steps reduce the susceptibility to errors, and empty and incorrect runs can be avoided more effectively. This cuts costs and reduces fuel consumption at the same time. In addition, the elimination of paper-based transport orders saves up to 1.5 million sheets of paper within the transport chain every year. Thanks to this contribution, the app is now also certified a "This is green" measure by Deutsche Bahn.
Digital transportation also offers clear advantages when it comes to documentation. Proof of delivery is available promptly, archived in an audit-proof manner and automatically transmitted to defined groups of recipients. Transparency, traceability and compliance are thus guaranteed without additional administrative effort. With this solution, TFG Transfracht relies on proven digital standards that are specifically geared towards the requirements of a large-scale CT network. Sustainability is not achieved through new buzzwords, but through reliable processes that endure in everyday operations.
