25 years of environmental awareness
Green coffee from Jacobs Douwe Egberts travels carbon-free from Bremen to Berlin with DB Cargo.
If a quarter of a century can be said to constitute a tradition, then DB Cargo traditionally takes care of transporting Jacobs Douwe Egberts’ (JDE) coffee from Bremen to Berlin. The coffee was shifted from road to rail in 1993. “At the time, environmental considerations were the impetus for the transition,” explains Matthias Strobel, Key Account Manager at DB Cargo.
In 2012, JDE went one step further and switched its transports to DBeco plus. Since then, transport of the green coffee has been carbon free. The transports involved one or two block trains per week. In 2013, they were switched to single wagons running every day. That allows JDE to better compensate for seasonal fluctuations.
Karsten Post, JDE:
We’re delighted that we can use a zero-carbon transport product with DB Cargo. Apart from the environmental aspect, one should emphasize the flexibility that characterizes our long-standing partnership.
