Article: What does a Head of Sustainability and Quality Management actually do at Transfesa?

As Head of Sustainability and Quality Management at Transfesa Logistics, Isabel Núñez is committed to reconciling environmental, economic and social responsibility.

Sustainability has long been more than just a trend - it is a decisive competitive advantage. Isabel Núñez, Head of Sustainability and Quality Management at Transfesa Logistics, ensures that the company is not only economically successful, but also makes a positive contribution to the environment and society."My work can be compared to that of a compass," explains Isabel. "I help the company to stay on course towards sustainability - it's not just about environmental protection, but also about corporate social responsibility and good corporate governance. Our goal is to make Transfesa more competitive, more resilient and more future-proof."

A look behind the scenes

What exactly do I do? "I integrate sustainability and quality criteria into our corporate strategy. This allows us to minimize risks, take advantage of opportunities and position ourselves as the best choice for our customers."

Why is my job important? "Sustainability is increasingly becoming a decisive factor in the logistics sector. Our customers not only pay attention to price and performance, but also to the ecological footprint. My job helps to establish Transfesa as a sustainable, reliable partner."

What excites me about my work? Positive impact: "I love seeing how our work makes a real contribution to climate protection." Diversity: "No two days are the same - from strategic meetings to implementing projects at work."  Diversity and equality: "I really appreciate the environment at Transfesa - 60% of our management team is made up of women, including our CEO. This diversity introduces a richness of perspectives, experiences and skills that makes us stronger."

A project that I'm proud of:“The creation of a new corporate area and the definition and development of a sustainability strategy that supports our corporate strategy and has a positive impact on the income statement.”My tip for anyone who wants to get started in this field: "Find ways to make sustainability profitable. Companies want to generate positive environmental and social impact, but this must undoubtedly be accompanied by economic profitability for the business to be sustainable over time”.

How I came to Transfesa:

"I applied for a newly created position in sustainability in 2018 - it was the perfect opportunity to combine my passion for sustainability with my professional experience."

What I particularly like about my job:

"I can directly see how our initiatives are driving the company forward - economically and sustainably. That motivates me anew every day."

My good tip:

Integrating sustainable criteria in decision making and daily operations requires commitment and perseverance, but above all, it requires speaking the language of those who have to accompany you in the change. Explaining the advantages of integrating sustainability and how it will positively affect the business will make them clearly see the final objective and make the project their own.

Sustainability as a strategic success factor

A typical day for Isabel is a mixture of strategy development, project management and communication. "I work closely with other departments to integrate sustainability measures into our projects right from the start. Sustainability can't be an extra - it has to become part of the business model."One example of this is the calculation of the carbon footprint of our customers' transportation, which allows us to highlight the CO2 reductions they achieve through us and how we help them achieve their own emission reduction targets."This was not only a benefit for the environment, but also made us more competitive - a real win-win situation."

Diversity and equality as a strength

"Diversity enriches our company - I feel that every day. The fact that 60% of our management team is made up of women is not only a sign of equality, but also a success factor. Different perspectives produce better solutions." For Isabel, empathy and persuasiveness are just as important as specialist knowledge. "Sustainability is a journey - and you have to take others with you on this journey. Only together can we really make a difference."

Sustainability as a competitive advantage

Why is sustainability so important at Transfesa? Isabel is convinced: "Sustainability is becoming the new currency in logistics. Our customers expect us to work not only efficiently, but also in an environmentally friendly way. Those who can do this will remain successful in the long term." Isabel is also thinking about future innovations: "The challenges of tomorrow require the solutions of today. We need to set the course now - for a sustainable, resilient future."
